Sweet Chilli Sauce

I had a load of left over chillies so rather than dry them out or them go to waste I decided to mix up some sweet chilli sauce. The chillies came straight from a plant I’ve had growing in the sitting room. Depending on how much you blend this and how long you reduce it for will determine if you get jam or sauce. I prefer sauce!


  • 8 tomatoes, chopped.
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced.
  • 1 diced onion.
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 100ml red wine vinegar
  • 2 fresh chillies
  • 75ml of water


  1. Boil all of the ingredients for about 20 minutes.
  2. Blitz with a hand blitzer if you have one. I used a blender meaning I got a finer sauce.
  3. Return to the heat. Watch and stir until you get the consistency you want.
